Above All Men chosen as a
Midwest Connections 2014 Pick

Eric’s debut novel, Above All Men, was selected as a Midwest Independent Booksellers Association Midwest Connections 2014 Pick. Midwest Connections focuses on incentivizing the handselling of independent publishers by promoting a selection of titles they feel exemplify the spirit of the Midwestern region, meet their booksellers’ needs, and achieve their price-point goals. Above All Men was chosen as a monthly 2014 pick, alongside two other independent books, The Cold Nowhere and Up at Butternut Lake, and the Midwest Independent Booksellers Association had this to say about the selections:

Each month, Midwest Connections celebrates the various lifestyles and locales that define the Midwest. One of the most inspirational settings for novels in recent years is the Northwoods. This month we showcase a pair of novels set here–a wintry mystery from award-winning author Brian Freeman and a summer tale from Mary McNear–as well as Eric Shonkwiler’s powerful debut about a different location altogether: the prairie and plains of Nebraska. We hope that the differences between these books, and these settings, will help to showcase what brings us all together: the love of good people, good places, and good stories.”
