Blurbed on Dashboard Citizen

Eric’s writing was blurbed by Leah Angstman in her interview on Dashboard Citizen, when she was asked “Who’s your favorite (current) writer and why?” Her answer:
The prose writer who has me so excited for his debut novel that I am literally tied in knots over it, is Eric Shonkwiler. That man — wow. I do not have words for how incredible his writing is. His stripped-down, undecorated narrative doesn’t waste a breath, and this beautiful poetry dances underneath it that’s so subtle, it just creeps into you like a tapeworm and eats all your insides.

“He lands somewhere between a soberer Hemingway, a more linear Faulkner, a heavy rotation of Nick Cave’s “Murder Ballads,” a couple’a shots of Bulleit, an infected snakebite, and Cormac McCarthy.”

He’s got this moody, larger-than-life thing going on that lands him somewhere between a soberer Hemingway, a more linear Faulkner, a heavy rotation of Nick Cave’s “Murder Ballads,” a couple’a shots of Bulleit, an infected snakebite, and Cormac McCarthy. A hell of an ugly bastard child, but by golly, it works. Be sure to check out Above All Men.”
